What personal data does Digital Theatre collect from children?

Digital Theatre's primary concern is the protection of children's personal data. Digital Theatre+ is designed for use by educational institutions, and any child access must be authorised by the institution in accordance with applicable data protection law (such as GDPR, UK GDPR, or COPPA). As stated in the Privacy Policy, The only personal data Digital Theatre may collect from a child is an email address, used solely during the authentication process. The lawful basis for collecting and processing that data is to fulfil contractual obligations to educational institutions, and where applicable, consent. It is therefore Digital Theatre's policy to only allow access Digital Theatre+ to those under the age of 18 (or under the applicable age of majority in their state or territory of residence) with the consent of a parent, legal guardian or institution.

Who is responsible for obtaining parental consent for child access?

In most jurisdictions, an institution can provide consent on behalf of a parent or guardian. However, this varies depending on the child's state or territory of residence. Digital Theatre is not involved in the collection of children's personal data or in uploading that data to the platform for authentication purposes. Digital Theatre simply acts on the institution's instructions. It is therefore always the institution's responsibility to obtain any parental or guardian consents required under the laws applicable in the child's state, territory, or country of residence.

What happens if Digital Theatre processes a child's data without the required consent?

Digital Theatre does not knowingly process personal data from a child under the age of 18 — or under the applicable age of majority in their state, territory, or country of residence — without the required consents. If Digital Theatre discovers that personal data has been collected or processed without the legally required consents, the associated account will be immediately suspended and/or that personal data will be deleted as soon as possible.
